Ideal Office Setup

These office types best match your specific personality type

Open Offices

This is the most common office layout for Startups. It is often described as a wide open space that is shared by all employees. Most of the time the employee desks are only separated with a small partition but there are many setups that do not even have partitions. There are also setups where 2 employees share a big desk by sitting face to face.

It is often hard to distinguish the borders of an employee’s work space in this type of layout.

Pros:

  • Encourages verbal communication
  • Very cost effective
  • Supervisors have an easier time monitoring their staff

Cons:

  • High level of distraction and noise
  • Lack of Privacy

Other personalities that also prefer this workplace.

Social

Coworking Spaces

Also known as a shared office. It has some elements of telecommuting as it caters to remote workers who have a need to rent workspace for access to meeting spaces as well as divides like printers and scanners.

Pros:

  • Lesser costs compared to traditional offices for startup companies
  • Networking opportunities with other Coworking Space tenants that belong to a different company.

Cons:

  • Plenty of distractions
  • Only cost effective up to a certain number of employees.

Other personalities that also prefer this workplace.

Artistic

The Cellular Office

A Cellular Office is one of the most popular layouts in which the entire floor space is divided into individual spaces or cubicles for one or more employees.

Individual rooms are created either by using ceiling stud partitions or a window or a door. This means each will get their own separate space.

Pros:

  • Encourage Autonomous Work.
  • Productivity is increased because employees can focus on work and minimize distractions.
  • Best for work environments where privacy is important

Cons:

  • Requires a lot of space
  • Minimal inter office communication

Other personalities that also prefer this workplace.

5 Career Advice Articles We Wrote For You

Quit Your Job If It Has These 4 Attributes

#1) Job does not allow you to acquire skills that are deemed reasonably unique, important, and in demand by society

#2) Job focuses on something harmful or of limited value to the world.

#3) Job lacks the “Basics”*.
(Basics are reasonable hours, pay, room for advancement, and eventual power to effect positive change.)

#4) Job forces you to work with people you do not like.

*Basics- If a paying job, non-paying job, or internship offers the opportunity to learn a really important skill you should definitely consider making some sacrifices. This could mean taking a part-time paying job to pay for the “Basics”. Once you learn this important skill your career prospects and earnings will dramatically improve. Sacrifice the now for the future.

*You are in a better negotiating and economic position if you search for a new job when currently employed.

Learn More About Working In The Career You Love

The 4 Reasons Why People Have Great Careers

This is what I want you to do. As an experiment, speak with 3 of your friends that appear to be working in well paying careers they enjoy. I would wager that most of these friends can provide a reasonable answer to each of these 4 steps.

Step 1 – CAREER PURPOSE – You will determine what you want to accomplish in your career. Your overall and specific career purpose.

Step 2 – VALUABLE SKILL – You will determine what valuable and marketable career skill you are going to develop. This valuable skill will be utilized in accomplishing your career goal.

Step 3 – #1 DREAM CAREER – You will pick a career you personally love, adds value to the world, and pays a good salary. This career will utilize your “Valuable Skill”

Step 4 – 1-10 YEAR CAREER PLAN – You will create a custom written step-by-step 10 year career plan to turn your “#1 Dream Career” into reality.

You will complete these 4 steps upon completion of: Career You Love In 15 Days®

These are the 4 pillars and your career planning backbone.

Your life and career path is never 100% predictable.

Fate provides arbitrary twists and turns.

If you develop a compelling career purpose in tandem with valuable and marketable skills you have the ability to handle the many ups and downs in your career.

Let’s say one day you wake up and decide you need a career change.

If you have developed valuable skills you can easily transition into related careers.

Employers value your mastery of important skills.

You will have the ability to pick and choose jobs that are in alignment with your overall career purpose and multi-year career plan.

It is good to be a “jack or jill of all trades” when you own a house.

Some think it is also important to be a “jack or jill of all trades” in developing career skills. For the most part this is not true. It is impossible to be a true “master” in many different fields.

Your heart surgeon does not do brain surgery. Superman is only in the movies.

Become really really good at a couple of skills the marketplace values.

This will get you through any economic downturn.

Apply these skills in a career that adds value to the world and solves a critical problem.

Do this and you will get paid well, feel good about your career purpose, and get positive feedback from those around you.

Don’t settle for less!

REASONS WHY YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL LATER IN LIFE

#1- YOUR COMPETITION DOES NOT WORK ALL THAT HARD.

Recent studies have shown that during a typical 8 hour work day most people work less than 3 hours.

If you are ready for change, it's not too hard to outshine a 3 hour a day worker.

#2- BECOME A SPECIALIST NOT A GENERALIST

Most people know a little about a lot of things. People that have real impact know a lot about one specific thing. They develop a specific skill that the world values. Apply this specific skill to solve a problem. erhaps a problem that is being ignored. If your focus is being a master at one specific skill, its much quicker and easier to ramp up and become a master.

#3- YOUR SKILLS

You are older. This means you have developed a wide variety of skills over the years. Most likely some of these skills can pretty easily transition to a new career or business venture.

#4- SIDE HUSTLE

It is more and more common these days for people to work a full-time job and then have a "side hustle". Something they really want to do on the side. Over time, you can develop this "side hustle" into a full-time areer.

BE THE 5% - 95% of people have no clue how to choose a career- BE THE 5%

“You know, Marissa, you’re putting a lot of pressure on yourself to pick the right choice, and I’ve gotta be honest: That’s not what I see here. I see a bunch of good choices, and there’s the one that you pick and make great.”

I think that’s one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten.

—Marissa Mayer, Former CEO of Yahoo!

95% of people have no clue how to choose a career

Back in the early 1990’s I was listening to a radio program. I had just graduated from college and feeling lost in both life and career. The radio announcer was interviewing a concert pianist. He asked the pianist when he knew that the piano was going to be a lifelong passion and career. The pianist said he knew at the age of 4…

I was like 4?? WTF…

I was 22 and had no clue what career I will grow to love, what career will add value to the world, what career pays a good salary.

I remember being so despondent because I did not have this sort of clarity. I did not have a clear career path like this concert pianist. Lots of stops and starts. Jobs I kind of liked and jobs I certainly didn’t like.

BAD NEWS: Like 95% of the population you may never that have that aha moment where the perfect career falls out of the sky and says PICK ME! PICK ME! PICK ME!

GOOD NEWS: AT THE END OF THE DAY-IT MAY NOT REALLY MATTER.

The reason it may not matter- For most people real career enjoyment and passion does not come at the start of your career.

Simple reasoning. You are not going to really make a difference, truly impact people, or even make a good salary unless you become a “master” at what you do.

When you become a master you start to really love your job. That is when you positively impact others. That is when you get real job security, flexibility, and make the big bucks.

If you follow these 4 requirements you probably will be very happy with your work.

No AHA moment needed.

1) Choose a worthy career goal/career purpose

2) Develop a valuable skill you utilize in solving this career goal

3) Work in a career that solves your worthy career goal utilizing your valuable skill

4) Become a master at your skill and career. (Becoming a master takes time)

MANY MANY different careers will satisfy your 4 requirements listed above.
